I was talking to my friend and he mentioned I didn't talk about rock music much lately so I am on this rock hype right now. Ive have realized that the state of today's rock music is almost as bad as the U.S. Economy. As of the past few years there hasn't been a band that been formed or released their debut album that and look like they can last like bands of the past.
A lot of today's rock bands are crossing over to the rock side but don't have lasting value. So i have to take this time to recognize some of my favorite bands that started before 2000 and have been in the game and have die hard fans even from the 80's all the way up to today!
#1 Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The RHCP are my all time favorite band! They have been around since the early 80's and are still rocking hard. Yes they have been through many transitions and through quite a bit but what good rock group hasn't!? This is one band that will continue to just bring out the rock hits. But when you have an amazing guitarist like John Frusciante and bass player like Flea how can you not!? I still wear my Red Hot Chili Peppers shirt with PRIDE!
#2 Nirvana
Although this great grunge group disbanded back in the 90's due to the death of lead singer Kurt Cobain their albums still sell and are still in heavy rotation. Dave Grohl is always just beating up the drums and he does a great job at it. Of course Kurt isn't the best singer but his voice works perfectly in this grunge group trio.
These punk gods date back to 70's. I used to listen to them everyday when i would walk to school at 5am on the way to my ASB meetings. They are known for having short songs but those 2 minutes pack a whole lot of rock!!!
#4 Smiths/Morrissey
I am kind of a bigger Morrissey [solo] fan more so than when he was with the Smiths in the 80's but I cannot doubt the fact that they were a good ass fucking band! The Smiths/Morrissey is good for when you're depressed or when you want to just listen to some good rock. I dint know what it is about them that make them universal to metal heads, emo kids, indie kids an straight rock fans.
When I want to rock hard but not too hard I play Queens Of The Stone Age. This girl named Melody introduced me to them and since I loved it!
They didn't last long but their sound and music is forever lasting. Everyone knows who RAGE is. They were a little too political for me when I first heard them but I actually really like them now.
Whenever I have the need to just mellow out I put in a Cure cd. As crazy as Robert Smith looks, the music is great!
#8 No Doubt
I love Gwen Stefani's upbeat pop stuff but when i feel like i need a little ska i turn to No Doubt. They were just cranking out the hits in the early 90's. Their songs were so emotional and I love that about them.
At the time of their debut we hadn't heard anything like them or seen really a duo rock guitarist/singer drummer and no bass player. But this is another band that was just amazing when they first started.
When I feel like a little hard from from the 70's I blast Black Sabbath. Undeniably the best metal band out there of all time. Ozzy Osbourne is quite the front man but I cannot count out the rest of the band. LOVE ME SOME SABBATH!
The following bands aren't favorites of mine but they do deserve honorable mention
The Doors, Cheap Trick, Rush, AC/DC, Metallica, Incubus, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jamm, Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zepelin, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Frank Zappa, Janis Joplin and Sex Pistols
