What Exactly is Prop 8 About?

I was talking to a gay guy yesterday who said he was voting YES on Prop 8 because he doesn't want his future children to learn about gay marriage in schools. I tried to tell him that Prop 8 has nothing to do with schools so I decided to write this entry to talk about exactly what Proposition 8 is all about because some people just don't know

Prop 8 titled : ELIMINATES RIGHT OF SAME–SEX COUPLES TO MARRY.
INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

This is exactly whats going to happen if Prop 8 passes...

• Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.
• Provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.

This Proposition has nothing to do with children, education, or anything of that measure. People who are for the measure put out commercials showing children saying that your kids are going to be taught gay marriage in schools if this measure isn't passed. This was clearly a scare tactic for those undecided voters and it has obviously worked. Lets be honest taking rights away from people saying they aren't as equal as you are and don't have the right to do something is WRONG! Gay marriage affects no one other than homosexuals and no one else. So please VOTE NO ON 8!
